Can polyurea be applied over existing pool tiles?

By the SealCraft Iberia team · Updated June 11, 2026

In many cases polyurea can be applied over existing tiles, provided the tiles are firmly attached and the substrate is stable. That avoids the time-consuming and costly removal of the old tile layer.

Thorough preparation is essential: the surface is cleaned, loose sections are repaired and a primer is applied so the polyurea bonds perfectly. Joints and small imperfections are levelled out first.

Whether it's possible in your case is best assessed on site. During an inspection we check the condition of the tiles and advise honestly whether overcoating is sensible or whether removal gives a more durable result.
